I was in a store this evening browsing through the clothing section, when a woman came up beside me and politely apologized for being in the way of the small aisle. We exchanged smiles as she told me about her family.
Today was the first day in a long time she was able to get out …. by herself … in a very long time. Today she had some mommy time. As she spoke more she explained how it was a struggle for her to get away. She wasn’t complaining but actually spoke very nicely about her wonderful husband. Even as great as he is, he isn’t keen on the idea of her taking time away, especially today (opening day of college football). I could tell just by talking to her that she was a wonderful mother; she glowed when talking about her baby and 3 yr old girl.
My point in this… MEN…. mommy needs a break too. If you come home and notice that your wife is frustrated, running around like crazy to get the house together and trying to do just about everything, give her time. Don’t suggest it but make her leave. (not always easy for her to do). Make her stop what she’s doing and kick her out of the house so she can go shopping, get a coffee, go to the gym, have dinner with the girls. Whatever she needs to relax and take a breath. She’ll be happier, a better mom and a better wife if she gets some time.
Remember while she’s out the best and greatest thing you can do for her is to finish in the house where she left off. That’s right, I mean pick up the dirty clothes and put them in the hamper, get the kids cleaned and ready for bed, make dinner and so on. She will appreciate the time out and that will definitely score you some points in the nookie department. And for those guys who already are amazing and do these things for your ladies, ladies remember to say thank you any way you like.
